Activity Policy

Eligibility for euthanasia in our view: ・Be 18 years of age or older. ・Be a Japanese citizen or permanent resident, or have been residing in Japan for at least 12 months at the time of initial application. ・Be mentally stable and have judgment and decision-making capacity. ・Be diagnosed with an incurable, progressive, and fatal disease, illness, or medical condition. ・Be expected to die from the disease within a few weeks to a few months, or up to 6 months, or up to 12 months in the case of neurodegenerative diseases (non-terminal conditions are excluded). ・The disease is causing suffering that the individual deems intolerable and cannot be alleviated by acceptable means. ・Persons with mental illnesses or non-terminal conditions (whose life expectancy is unpredictable) are not eligible for euthanasia (although this may not be the case in the future). *Neurodegenerative diseases include ASL, Parkinson's disease, spinocerebellar ataxia, multiple system atrophy, multiple sclerosis, Huntington's disease, etc. *We receive many inquiries regarding this, but unfortunately, mental illnesses are not eligible. Unfortunately, requests based solely on persistent chronic pain (fibromyalgia, pain symptoms of unknown origin) are also excluded. Initially, as in many countries where euthanasia is legal, those eligible for euthanasia are those with terminal illnesses.
