[Uruguay becomes the first Latin American country to legalize euthanasia]

On October 15, 2025 , euthanasia was legalized in Uruguay, South America.
Four Latin American countries have already legalized it , but all of them have done so through court precedent .
However, Uruguay has made this a legal system through legislation passed by its parliament , making it the first country in South America to do so.

Regarding progress on euthanasia in Uruguay, the euthanasia bill was actually submitted to the lower house of parliament in August 2022 and was approved in October of the same year .
However, the government's Senate Public Health Committee at the time firmly refused to consider the bill in the Senate, causing the process to stall.
Of course, this is the result of a conspiracy by those who oppose euthanasia . It is what is known as a "crash."

However, there was a change of government during that time, and the euthanasia bill was introduced in the Senate on February 2, 2025. This was progress after a three-year suspension of deliberations that began in 2022.

A Uruguayan opinion poll showed that 82% of the population supports legalizing euthanasia .

A public opinion poll conducted in April 2025 also showed 62% in favor . It was now only a matter of time before euthanasia was legalized.
After the euthanasia bill was sent to the Senate, it progressed smoothly and became law.

Apparently, the moment the euthanasia bill was passed in the Diet, people started calling it a "murderer."
Those who oppose euthanasia in Latin America are Catholics (Christians) , as is the norm around the world.

This is a Peruvian Catholic woman.

This is also a "promised" development all over the world, but Christianity and religious groups always say the following when they oppose euthanasia:
Palliative care is presented as a means of treatment and is opposed...
Or rather, they try to cover it up.
The palliative care industry is dominated by Christians at the top...
This is also recognized around the world as a convention.
Of course, Japan is no exception .
Some people may wonder, "Christianity in Japan?" This is because it is a taboo that the media will never (and cannot) report on.
The structure is the same as that of the Japan Federation of Bar Associations (JFBA), which lawyers are forced to join, where the upper echelons are dominated by Communist Party members . In other words, even if a group's membership is small, if the upper echelons are dominated by a "privileged class ," they can impose rules on society and control it...this is also a "promise" around the world.
I will introduce this point in more detail at a later date (link will be posted).
I haven't read the Euthanasia Bill itself yet, and I will explain the details of its contents at some point, but based on a comprehensive interpretation of what the South American media has reported...

Who has access?
- A citizen or resident of Uruguay.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Have the mental capacity to make decisions.
- People with incurable and irreversible diseases.
- Those in a stage of suffering that is considered unbearable.
The same policy as the good legacy of our predecessors, Colombia and Ecuador...
In other words, it would be in line with the Dutch euthanasia policy.

As you know, South America has a complex history and many countries with high levels of political instability .
We cannot say that we have a full grasp of the situation, but we will continue to keep an eye on developments.
If there's anything else to add, I'll add it as it comes up.
